In Saint-Denis, Paris, the first official stone of the Aquatic Centre for the Paris 2024 Games was put into place by Jean Castex, Prime Minister, and Patrick Ollier, President of the Métropole du Grand Paris. Furthermore, the ceremony was attended by Pierre Rabadan, deputy Mayor of the City of Paris, Patrick Karam, Vice President of the Région Ile de France, Tony Estanquet, President of Paris2024 and Nicolas Borit, Deputy CEO of Bouygues Construction and Thierry Roulet, Director of Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France.
We are proud that architects Cécilia Gross (VenhoevenCS) and Laure Meriaud (Ateliers 2/3/4) were invited to present the design to this exceptional entourage.

“The Aquatic Centre in Saint-Denis, part of a sustainable and responsible approach, is a project that is both virtuous and innovative. That’s why today we are proud to lay the foundation stone; start symbol of our project.”, declares Patrick Ollier, President of the Métropole du Grand Paris.

Gathered around the model of the Aquatic Centre, the architects pointed out to the dignitaries that environmental issues are at the heart of their design: its construction and technical and energy performance reflect a strong ambition which will lead to a long-term reduction in the building’s energy consumption, and in its carbon footprint. The Aquatic Centre will be made from 1,200 tons of bio-based materials. Its virtuous design received the ‘NF HQE1 sports equipment’-certification at the end of October. And: the innovative operation, aimed at the inhabitants of the territory, is arousing considerable curiosity and enthusiasm.

The construction of the Aquatic Centre is progressing according to the previously announced deadlines and will continue until 2024. Then, it will give way to a sports complex in an urban park intended to be a real place to live and meet. The versatility and modularity of the spaces will make the Aquatic Centre a forward-looking building and a structuring facility at the service of all inhabitants of the metropolitan area.
