VenhoevenCS Architecture + Urbanism, together with BVR Spatial Development Advisors, conducted a design-led study on the socio-economic positioning of the Fellenoord area within the Brainport Eindhoven region. The study was translated into recommendations on how the area’s development as a globally competitive city could be broadened to foster inclusive urban development, supporting both the Brainport ambitions and local urban life.

The research primarily examines how the Fellenoord station area can be designed to embed social and cultural values in a structured and lasting manner. This is achieved through a series of robust recommendations concerning programme, organisation, financing, and policy. These recommendations draw on insights gathered through the Fellenoord Workshop, a collaborative agenda initiated by the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment (VRO) and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW). The workshop included working sessions, site visits, and a public dialogue.

Combined with the practical experience of VenhoevenCS and BVR, these insights have been translated into practical guidelines applicable not only to Fellenoord but also to other large-scale residential developments in the Netherlands.

We extend our gratitude to the Ministry of VRO and Fellenoord2040 for their excellent partnership, as well as to all participants in the Fellenoord Workshop. The breadth of insights and perspectives gathered makes the report highly valuable.

We invite everyone to read the report and accompanying leaflet to explore the insights in detail!
