Festively inaugurated: pedestrian crossing aquatics centre
8 June 2023
The metaphor of crossing, linking and urban fabric, was spun yesterday by the speakers of the inauguration ceremony of the pedestrian and bicycle bridge that now connects the Aquatics Center and the Stade de France, in Saint-Denis.
A colorful and inspiring choreography, by Nawel Oulad, opened the inauguration of this infrastructure. This movement of people and the bridge’s dimensions (18m wide and 100m long, crossing the A1) gave the bridge the feel of an urban square. It immediately appeared as more than just a place of transit, rather as a welcoming public space.
The bridge consists of two steel beams, allowing for the reduction of the amount of material used. On both sides, wooden triangles shelter the passage over the highway – the material echoing that of the Aquatics Centre. Trees and groves on the Stade de France side, already evoke the vast park of 1,5ha that will surround the Aquatics Centre. The footbridge will connect, in addition to the two sports facilities, the east and west of Saint-Denis, putting an end to the urban cut of the A1 motorway and will give access to the new Saulnier district.
