Forum ´t Zand wins Rietveldprijs 2007

VenhoevenCS won the ‘Rietveld Award 2007’ with the project Forum ‘t Zand. The Rietveld Award is a bi-annual award and aims to stimulate the quality of the built environment of the city of Utrecht. The jury mentions:

‘The broad school Forum ‘t Zand by VenhoevenCS received a cheerful response from the jury. It is an unconventional object in a neighborhood, which in the eyes of the jury is in all its aspects the average Vinex. The object looks like a spaceship and appeals to the imagination. This is a school building that every child will remember happily. It gives the schools and other users identity and provides the neighborhood with an icon. In a pleasant way, VenhoevenCS has retained the informal character of the place and integrated the historical chimneys in his design. The school playgrounds on the roof intensify the use of space and also bring variety in play areas. The spaceship is convincingly materialized. The facade panels are all unique, but could still be produced in series by means of file to factory. The jury greatly appreciates the way in which VenhoevenCS has given shape to this socially important, but financially undervalued task’.

The official jury report can be read in Dutch on the website of Rietveldprijs.
