Zentralbad Villingen-Schwenningen is taking shape – and we’re proud to be leading the design together with RKW Architektur +.

The new swimming and wellness complex replaces two outdated pools and becomes a key part of the city’s sports cluster between Villingen and Schwenningen. Embedded in the hilly landscape and lifted on a robust plinth with a generous terrace overlooking the valley, the complex is formed by a series of timber volumes with gently folded gabled roofs. Pools positioned along the façade bring swimmers as close as possible to daylight and landscape, while the wellness area is organised around a green patio as the calm heart of the building.

At the same time, Zentralbad is a testbed for climate-conscious aquatic architecture.
A compact building volume limits material use and heat loss, yet the interior remains generous and filled with daylight. Carefully balanced façades optimise daylight, comfort and thermal performance, while the timber structural frame stores CO₂ and supports a warm, healthy indoor climate.
