We are proud to announce that the Aquatics Centre in Saint-Denis, designed by VenhoevenCS architecture+urbanism and Ateliers 2/3/4/, realised by Métropole du Grand Paris, has been awarded the “Technical Achievement” prize in the Construction Bois 2024 Regional competition.

The jury, chaired by Marion Waller, Managing Director of the Pavillon de l’Arsenal, Gaston Tolila and Nicholas Gilliland, founders of Tolila + Gilliland, awarded this “out of category” prize in recognition of “a masterpiece of architecture and engineering that paves the way for new large-scale facilities in wood”, the result of a joint effort with all our partners, including Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France, schlaich bergermann partner sbp and Mathis SA.

The project was highlighted for:
– The synergy of the innovations implemented and the use of bio-sourced and recycled materials in the service of a simple, lightweight construction system;
– its wooden structure, which contributes to the architecture of the site, giving it both its identity and its warm atmosphere;
– its exceptional environmental performance, which exceeds the targets set by la Métropole du Grand Paris.

Designed with the younger generation in mind, the Aquatics Centre is a new architectural landmark and an example of bio-sourced design in the heart of the metropolis.
