IJboulevard BNA Best Building of the Year!
24 May 2024
IJboulevard was selected as the winner of ‘Best Building of the Year’ in the category ‘Livability & Social Cohesion’. During the festive award ceremony in the Bunkertoren in Eindhoven, the professional jury – chaired by Marcia Luyten – praised IJboulevard as “an asset for the residents of Amsterdam and the many commuters who visit this place every day, and of great importance for the city’s quality of life and social cohesion”.
We see this recognition of IJboulevard as a testament to the effectiveness of our design principles: we reshape cities based on connection and proximity, prioritising quality of life and regenerating urban ecosystems. IJboulevard is an example of this approach: it combines an attractive public space with a welcoming entrance to the station. It is both an underwater bike parking and a stepping stone for marine life. In this way, IJboulevard has become an important link in the livability of the multimodal urban node of Amsterdam Central Station.
IJboulevard is an integral design and a collaboration between VenhoevenCS architecture+urbanism, Van Hattum en Blankevoort, DS Landschapsarchitecten, commissioned by the City of Amsterdam. The features that promote biodiversity and support aquatic life underwater bear the stamp of DS landschapsarchitecten, and the Team Ontwerp Publieke Ruimte of the City of Amsterdam designed the public space on top of the bike parking.
Congratulations to our partners: City of Amsterdam, ProRail, Vervoerregio Amsterdam, Van Hattum en Blankevoort, DS Landschapsarchitecten, VolkerWessels, Volker Staal en Funderingen, Homij, Gebr. van Kessel Bedrijven, Royal HaskoningDHV.
