How to use a new metro line to improve the city? Metro Line 3  Beijing offers good opportunities to enhance Urban Regeneration and Transit Oriented area development. VenhoevenCS focuses on the potential influence on the development of the city, the connection with surrounding area, transfer routes and improvement of the connected public space.

Metro Line 3 Beijing will become one of the major and high capacity metro lines, which runs from east-side to west-side on the north of the central city core area of Beijing. Total track length is about 21.975km with fully underground construction and fifteen stations. We claim that Beijing metro 3rd line will have positive impact affect Beijing especially for the inner ring road city, in terms of the improvement of air quality, contribution to sponge city, creation of urban jobs, sustainable energy, improvement of public space, prevention of heat stress, enhancement of livability of the city and promotion of mixed use development.

M3 is not just a mode of transportation it is the catalyst for urban development. In the future, sunken plazas connect different plots to the underground metro system, which provides citizens more public space. Adding new spatial layers to the metro stations, which in the short term could be used as parking space reduces the spatial pressure on ground level. In the long term strategy, these parking space could change into commercial use depending on society needs. The flexible program offers the city more possibilities and financial benefit. The aim is to provide citizens a smooth city routine and build up a walk able city.

Completion is scheduled for the end of 2019
